If you use email often, then you may have come across the following message:
Domain nekidomen.rs has exceeded the max defers and failures per hour (10/10 (100%)) allowed. Message discarded.
What actually happened there?
First of all, you need to check the status of your email messages in cPanel.
An option in cPanel allows you to see exactly which messages have been sent to you and which have been sent by you to any domain if you have multiple domains active on your account. This option will also show you emails that you haven't received for some reason (say if a spammer sent you an email and their server is blocked).
To enter that option, go to cPanel > Track Delivery, the view of the option looks like this:

In this view, you will see in the "Result" table various answers depending on what the problem is. The picture shows that one email message was not received because the server from which it was sent is blacklisted and marked as spam.
In that Result table you will also see "Domain nekidomen.rs has exceeded the max defers and failures per hour (10/10 (100%)) allowed. Message discarded." which means that the messages you send will not be sent.
What is this blockade for?
It serves to block spammers and prevent them from abusing the hosting and thereby protect the server so that it does not end up on the black list and thus enables flawless email work for all other clients on that server. (as we saw in the example above from the picture that the server is blacklisted for spam and its email is not received at all).
This blocking protects your account and the accounts of others from the potential threat of attempted spam and sending emails to non-existent email addresses.
When is it activated?
This blocking is activated when you send a certain number of emails to some email addresses that do not exist or your email was not delivered for some reason (for example, the email server is offline or has some problem and is currently not receiving emails).
So if you send emails to a non-existent address.
If you send an email and it is not received, that is, the person you forwarded to did not receive the email at all because of the server.
Each hosting account has limits on the number of emails per hour and the number of emails that are not delivered before this protection is activated.
Do you have an activated email auto-reply when someone sends you an email from the site or directly to your email? This is one of the most common cases of blockage. Because the spammer sends you an email from the site (bypassing the server banning his email) and you automatically send him a reply, i.e. the cPanel you set up, and of course the email doesn't end up where it should, and that's how you got blocked.
Can it be turned off?
Theoretically it can. Is that ever done? Not if you are on shared hosting, but only if you have your own server, then of course you can, but even then it is not wise (because if some abuse happens and your server ends up on the black list, then you are automatically disabled from sending emails).
Realistically your hosting provider can increase the limit on your account if they are sure that you are sending regular emails and that this is a mistake and you urgently need to send emails. (as we do with our clients but we never turn off this option).
Also, this block only lasts for an hour, after which it is canceled and you can send emails again without any problems.
How can I prevent this from happening again?
This is the easiest thing. Always send emails to verified and real email addresses. For mass sending (spam or email marketing as some call it) use services such as mailchimp and similar.
I have never sent a mass email and I always send emails to my associates/clients and yet this is happening?
- Yes, it is possible, it was already explained earlier. Your co-worker or client has a problem with their email server and you will be blocked because of their problem. Notify the client in another way that there is a problem and to notify their hosting provider that they cannot receive messages.
You can see the reason why it is not receiving emails in the cPanel option at the beginning of the post.
One of the many possible messages in this situation is:
"SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO: : 454 4.7.1 < adresa@domen.rs >: Relay access denied"
Turn off auto-responders in cPanel or email client or on the site itself.
* Scenario: You have a contact form on your website so that when someone sends you an email from the contact form, something like: your message has been forwarded, thank you for your response, we will reply soon.
A spammer (bot) sends an email from the site in order to get your email address in order to spam you, you give him a reply, he gets your email address to spam you and you get blocked.
